Hayao Miyazaki, the famed and frequently celebrated anime film director at Studio Ghibli known for announcing his retirement every other day and announcing his return every day in between, has announced today is one of those days where he’s coming out of retirement with plans to make a new movie.
In case you didn’t believe him the previous 20 times said he said it about other movies, he says this time for sure guys, it will really be his final film. He says he regularly sees the people around him, friends and family, passing away one after another. He knows his time is coming soon, so why not make another anime movie.
New details on his next project are scarce, but Miyazaki seems intent on trying to reel youth into the industry. He’s calling on young ambitious animators to help him for his next project, stating he’s increasingly confronted with scary new CG technology that he knows nothing about.
Thus, Studio Ghilbi is hiring, looking for individuals who are willing to commit to a three year production period on this upcoming movie. With three years of production expected, we probably won’t see it until 2020 at the earliest.
Hopefully Miyazaki is still alive by then…
